A REVIEW ON ISATIN AND ITS DERIVATIVES: SYNTHESIS, REACTIONS AND APPLICATIONS

Isatin, also known as 1H-Indole-2, 3-Dione, is an eight-carbon containing endogenous compound found in nature. Erdmann and Laurent synthesized isatin 1840, before it was discovered It versatile distributed tissues body fluids. Isatins have been detected mammalian tissue, their function a biochemical process modulator has the focus of many debates. The moiety shows some important chemical reactions such oxidation, N-Acylation, Friedel-Crafts reaction, N-Halogenation, etc. Antitumor, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, antiviral, anti-HIV, antioxidant, CNS depressant functions are all possessed by simple nucleus. Substituted derivatives this these properties. effective inhibitors urease α-glucosidase enzymes. This review provides brief overview on commonly used procedures to synthesize its derivatives, physical properties, biological activities.
